Fun Stories about Straws
- The modern-day straw was originally made of paper, hand-wrapped around a pencil and then glued at the
  end.
- The introduction of paper straws spurred the introduction of a number of other disposable products such as
disposable cups, plates and napkins and, with the introduction of plastic, to plastic straws.
- The paper explores interesting facts about the product including mold costs, the approximate cost of its
manufacture and the advantages of using plastic over any other material.
-Drinking straws were used in the ancient times for various reasons. The most likely being that the drinker did
not want to spill or drop any of the liquid being drunk, as alcohol, the liquid for which the straw was used,
was probably very expensive and difficult to obtain.
- In addition the filtration process to remove unwanted suspended particles in the drink may have not been
perfected and straws may have be used to avoid getting the bitter brewing residue into the mouth.
- Often in older civilizations a common eating and drinking vessel may have been used and straws probably
provided a means for more than one member participating in the meal to use the drinking vessel.
